A poster for Newmann's Road Show puts the tent itself at center stage, with a big top drawn large enough to serve as the main attraction. Traveling tent shows like this one moved from town to town by rail and wagon, so a striking tent image did the work of announcing the company before anyone reached the lot. Posters of this kind used bold color and simple shapes so they could be read from across a street or on a fence. The lettering and the way the tent fills the sheet show how advertisers tried to make passersby stop and look.
