Morrisville, a borough in Bucks County, sits on the Pennsylvania bank of the Delaware River directly across from Trenton, New Jersey, and this 1893 view shows the town from a high oblique angle, as if seen from above the water. The map was drawn by Thaddeus Mortimer Fowler, one of the most active makers of bird's-eye town views in the late nineteenth century. Fowler typically rendered streets, buildings and rail lines in fine detail, and maps like this were often sold to residents and local businesses as a record of their town. The river and the surrounding countryside are drawn alongside the streets, which helps show how the town fit into its landscape.
