This photograph shows President Franklin D. Roosevelt riding in an automobile with his touring party at Artist Point, the overlook on the rim of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone that looks across the canyon toward the Lower Falls. Roosevelt visited the park during his presidency, and the scene reflects the period's popular way of seeing Yellowstone, by car on the park's scenic roads. The print is catalogued as a c1937 work by a photographer identified only as Hayne, and it belongs to the Library of Congress's photographic prints from the 1930s. It is a useful record of a presidential sightseeing stop and of how such trips were documented for the public.
