The view from this hotel at Grange-over-Sands looks across the tidal sands of Morecambe Bay in northwest England, a prospect that sets it apart from the town's streets and gardens. Grange grew into a genteel resort after the railway reached it in 1857, drawing visitors who came for sea air and the mild climate Victorians valued for their health. The print is a photochrom, a color process from Switzerland that the Detroit Publishing Company used for its Views of England catalog, issued in 1905.
