Few pitchers of the 1910s drew more attention than Grover Cleveland Alexander, shown here beside his manager, Pat Moran, with teammates Joe Oeschger, Possum Whitted, and Milt Stock behind them. In 1915 Moran led a Philadelphia club that relied heavily on Alexander's arm to win the franchise's first National League pennant. The picture is a Bain News Service print from the George Grantham Bain Collection at the Library of Congress, a body of New York press photographs. The title was assigned by researchers with the Society for American Baseball Research, who identified the players.
