A color poster for *Chief Crazy Horse*, a 1955 Universal International western, places the Lakota leader's name at the center of its advertising, with Victor Mature, Suzan Ball, and John Lund in the cast. Crazy Horse, an Oglala Lakota born around 1842, resisted the expansion of the United States into the Northern Plains during the 1860s and 1870s and became famous for his role in the 1876 battle against Custer's forces on the Little Bighorn. He was killed in 1877 while in military custody. Hollywood westerns of the 1950s usually cast non-Native actors in Indigenous roles, so the poster also shows how mainstream films of the period presented this history to audiences.
