This ballot is a small slip, barely 1.3 by 4.6 centimeters, with a woodcut and letterpress text printed on thin paper. Its title alludes to the Augean stables, the filthy pens that Hercules cleaned in a single day as one of his labors in Greek myth. In the 1828 campaign, the metaphor cast Andrew Jackson as the reformer who would sweep out the corruption that his supporters charged had marked the administration of John Quincy Adams. The ticket pairs Jackson with John C. Calhoun for vice president. The imprint suggests Cincinnati, but the record leaves the place of printing uncertain.
