This woodcut slip, about 5 by 6 centimeters, is a party ballot from the 1828 presidential campaign. It reads "Jackson ticket" above the slogan "Agriculture, commerce and manufactures," so a voter could carry it to the polls as a ready-made choice. The race pitted Andrew Jackson against John Quincy Adams, and the slogan reflects the period's sharp debates over tariffs and how the federal government should support farming, trade and factories. Ballots like this were usually printed in large numbers and thrown away after use, which makes a surviving example worth a closer look.
