Woodrow Wilson served as the 28th president of the United States from 1913 to 1921, and this head-and-shoulders portrait shows him in profile, turned to the left. The caption card gives no date, so the exact year of the sitting is unknown, but the format fits the many official and press portraits made of him during his White House years. Wilson led the country through World War I and pushed for the League of Nations, which makes images like this one useful for studying how the presidency was presented to the public in that era.
