Woodrow Wilson appears here in a bust-length portrait, turned slightly to his left, a pose that was standard for formal studio photography of public figures in his era. Wilson served as the 28th president of the United States from 1913 to 1921, leading the country through World War I and pressing for the League of Nations after the armistice. Because the caption card records no date, the picture is best read as one of the many official and commercial portraits made during his years in public life, when his likeness circulated widely in newspapers and campaign material.
