*Armée de Terre et Armée de Mer*, or "Army and Navy," is a 1914 color lithograph announcing France's General Mobilisation Order at the outset of the First World War. Its colored flags helped the notice stand out on a crowded wall and tied the army and navy together under one call to arms. Posters like this went up in towns across France in early August 1914, as reservists were summoned to their units after Germany declared war on France.
