Beside the main courthouse in Walla Walla, Washington, this photogravure also shows a separate Hall of Records, a detail that sets it apart from simpler courthouse portraits. Walla Walla, in the state's southeastern corner, grew from a farming and trading center into a county seat whose civic buildings reflected that growth. Photogravure was a costly, finely toned reproduction process, and this print was issued by the Book Nook of Walla Walla as part of a series of courthouse views. The caption card gives no date, so the building's construction years are best checked against local records.
