Here the "saloon" is an aircraft passenger cabin, not a bar, which is a useful distinction given how this gallery groups it. The picture shows the interior of a Handley Page airliner, and the caption's comparison to a Pullman car signals how the builders hoped to sell air travel: as an extension of the comfortable rail journeys that wealthy travelers already knew. The image appeared in *The Illustrated London News* in January 1920, a period when Britain's early commercial airlines were just starting scheduled passenger service. Note that the caption record is unverified and was transcribed from an old card, so details beyond the magazine citation should be checked against the original.
