The East gun carriage shop at the Washington Navy Yard, shown here in 1905, stood at a site founded in 1799 on the Anacostia River, which became a long-standing center of naval ordnance work. The room also holds festive decorations, a detail the catalog records even though the occasion is not named. Stereograph cards like this one came in matched pairs meant for viewing through a hand viewer, a popular parlor pastime of the period. The card was registered for copyright by B.L. Singley and later listed under C.L. Wasson.
