Grant's Tomb, the granite mausoleum that holds the remains of Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia, stands in Riverside Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The monument was completed in 1897, and it became one of the city's best-known memorials, drawing visitors to the bluff above the Hudson River. This color print comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, which used the photochrom process to turn black-and-white photographs into colored lithographs. The company assembled albums like this one as a catalog of its views, so the print shows how American landmarks were marketed to travelers and buyers around 1901.
