This 1936 silkscreen poster, *Murals for the community*, promotes public mural and art exhibition programs in New York during the Depression, when the Federal Art Project employed artists to paint murals in public buildings and bring art to ordinary neighborhoods. Its silkscreen process was a technique the New York project's silkscreen unit used heavily, since it produced bold flat color that could be printed in multiples and posted widely. The record connects the piece to sculptor Maurice Glickman, and a stamp on the back shows it was dated September 2, 1938, two years after its printed date.
