Foxhall Keene, the wealthy sportsman known for his polo, steeplechase riding and Thoroughbred racing, is shown mounted on horseback here, and the caption ties the scene to a horse or place called Cedarhurst. The picture survives as a small glass negative from the Bain News Service, the New York agency whose photographers covered sporting and society events in the early twentieth century. The title comes from unverified caption data, so the Cedarhurst reference deserves some caution, but the record's April 1909 date places the image in the years when Keene was one of the best-known amateur horsemen in the country.
