The Nubble, a small rocky islet off Cape Neddick in York, Maine, is the focus here, with the Cape Neddick Light Station visible at left. The lighthouse on the islet dates to 1879 and became one of the best-known sights on the Maine coast. The Detroit Publishing Company made many scenic views like this one for the travel and postcard trade in the early 1900s. This example survives as an 8 x 10 inch glass dry plate negative, a format that recorded fine detail for reproduction.
