Pencil-signed by hand, this lithograph is titled *Looking at Sunshine*, and its title is the most direct clue to its mood, though the record does not say who drew it or when. Lithography, in which an image is drawn with greasy crayon on stone or metal and printed on paper, was widely used by American artists from the early 1800s onward, and an artist's pencil signature on a print usually indicates approval of the impression. The Library of Congress acquired the sheet by purchase through the Pennell Fund, and it is listed in Karen F. Beall's 1970 catalog of American prints in the library's collection.
