The New Poli's theater stood on Main Street in Bridgeport, Connecticut, directly across from the Hotel Stratfield, and this 1923 ink drawing records its design for that downtown site. The Library of Congress catalogs it among its architectural and engineering drawings, and its subject headings describe the building as both a theater and a motion picture house, a sign of how live stage shows and films shared many venues in the early 1920s. The Poli name linked the building to a New England theater chain that began with vaudeville and increasingly added films to its programs. Drawings like this one show the stage, seating, and street frontage that architects and owners had to settle before a large downtown theater could be built.
