Poli's Palace and Poli's Majestic were two theaters that stood together at the corner of Main Street and Arch and Congress Streets in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and this ink drawing records their design in 1923. The Poli name tied both houses to the vaudeville and motion picture circuit that Sylvester Z. Poli built across New England in the early twentieth century, when Bridgeport was a busy industrial city with a strong downtown entertainment district. Architectural drawings like this one show how such theaters were laid out for audiences, stages and street fronts, and they are a useful record of the building type at the height of the silent film era.
