Few pictures on this board show a building that was still on paper when it was drawn. This ink drawing presents the New Bijou theater and Poli's Bijou theater on Church Street in New Haven, Connecticut, set directly across from Poli's Palace theater, a major vaudeville and film house of the period. The catalog subjects also list hotels, which points to a mixed-use block where a playhouse and lodging shared one site. Drawings like this were used to plan construction and show clients how a facade would look, so the drawing reflects the 1920s ambition to build larger, more lavish movie palaces in American downtowns.
