Set on Church Street in New Haven, Connecticut, this 1923 ink drawing shows the New Bijou and Poli's Bijou directly across from Poli's Palace theater. The Poli name ties these houses to the vaudeville and film circuit that Sylvester Z. Poli built across New England in the early twentieth century, and the Palace was one of its best-known venues. The drawing belongs to the Library of Congress's architectural and engineering collection, and its subjects also include a hotel, which shows how theaters and lodging clustered together in the city's downtown during the 1920s.
