Card No. 107 in William Isaac Marshall's Yellowstone series pairs Fairy Spring with Marble Terrace, two of the thermal features that drew early visitors to the region's geyser basins. Marshall issued the set in 1876, only four years after Congress created Yellowstone as the first national park, when stereoviews like this one were a popular way for people far from the West to see its wonders. The card's stereo pair gives the scene depth, so the pale, terraced mineral deposits and the steaming pools seem to stand out from the card. Its title also names the "Magic Spring and Fissured Ridge" grouping, which shows how Marshall arranged the views by place.
