Number 125 in the "Glories of the Yosemite, California" series, this card pairs a view of the valley with a title that breaks off partway through, so the subject can only be read in part. Its publisher, William I. Marshall, sold stereoviews of Yosemite to the growing number of travelers who arrived after the valley was set aside by Congress in 1864 as a protected state park. Viewed through a stereoscope, the two nearly identical halves of the albumen print merge into a single image with depth, which was the main appeal of these cards in the 1870s parlor.
