This recruiting poster is printed entirely in French, with the call "Canadiens-Français! Enrolez-vous" addressed directly to French-speaking men of Canada. It was made in 1915 to raise the 189th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, one of several units recruited in Quebec with French-language appeals. Canadian recruiting in Quebec was harder than in English-speaking regions, and posters like this one tried to link military service to French-Canadian pride and loyalty. Its language and appeal show how the war effort was organized along linguistic lines in Canada.
