Among the Washington negatives in the National Photo Company Collection is this glass record of Herbert Hoover's 1929 inauguration. Hoover took the oath of office on March 4, 1929, succeeding Calvin Coolidge after a decisive win over Al Smith the previous November, and he had served as Commerce Secretary through the 1920s. The National Photo Company documented the capital's public life for decades, so its negatives are valued as records of Washington ceremonies. Streaks and blemishes on the glass come from deterioration of the original coatings, and the title follows the company's own notes, which have not been independently verified.
