Seen from Warwick Pier, Rocky Point lies across the water on the western shore of Narragansett Bay, where a seaside resort grew up in the 19th century around picnic groves and bayside bathing. The point drew steamboat excursions from Providence and later became one of New England's best-known shore amusement parks, with a dance pavilion, a carousel, and its famous shore dinners. The 1938 hurricane caused severe damage there, and the park was rebuilt in pieces over the following decades. The view across open water shows how the bay shaped the resort's appeal.
