Unlike the battlefield views on this board, this picture shows Union soldiers at Berlin, Maryland, a town on the Potomac River, in 1863. The title, *The Leisurely Pursuit*, points to the slow Union chase of Lee's army as it withdrew south after Gettysburg, a pace that drew criticism at the time. The print is a halftone reproduction made around 1911 from a photograph bearing the Brady studio's mark, so it preserves a Civil War scene through a later printing process. Its record names the Union army and the Maryland location, which makes it a useful view of the campaign's movements rather than its fighting.
