Streetcar tracks and the depot's broad facade at 42nd Street and Park Avenue define this view of Grand Central Depot, the terminal the New York Central opened in 1871. The image is an Albertype reproduction of a photograph by Adolph Wittemann, whose firm also held the copyright, and it came to the collection through the Leonard Hassam Bogart Collection. The caption card dates the scene to 1890, though the record notes those details are unverified, and the print itself is a later reproduction, dated around 1939. Its street-railway and station tracings make it useful for studying how city transit met the railroad terminal.
