A cyanotype of an office in the Sun Building at 1317 F Street NW, a commercial address in downtown Washington, D.C. The cyanotype process, which produces a distinctive blue-and-white image, was inexpensive and was often used for copies and record documents rather than for fine art. Frances Benjamin Johnston, a prominent Washington photographer, made the original collection this print belongs to, and her work captured the city's offices, interiors, and buildings during the decades around 1900. The record gives a date range of 1890 to 1950 rather than a precise date, so the print's exact year is uncertain.
