The German title, roughly "Need, misery, hunger, destruction: this is what Bolshevism brings," states the poster's argument outright. It was printed in Berlin in 1919 for the Association for Combating Bolshevism, a group active during the turmoil that followed Germany's defeat in World War I. That year saw the Spartacist uprising in January and the short-lived Bavarian Soviet Republic in the spring, while food shortages lingered after the wartime blockade. Posters like this one turned those fears into a direct warning for ordinary readers and show how anti-communism became a central theme of postwar German propaganda.
