This aerial view is titled for the San Diego Exposition, the California Pacific International Exposition that opened in Balboa Park in 1935. The fair was staged on the grounds of the earlier Panama-California Exposition of 1915-1916, and its buildings drew on the Spanish Colonial Revival style that gave the park much of its character. The photograph's title places the city in the background, so the image shows the fairgrounds set against San Diego's growing urban edge. The record's details, including the photographer's credit to Harry A. Erickson, come from an unverified caption card and should be read with that in mind.
