Lindbergh Field, seen here from above, was San Diego's municipal airport, named for Charles Lindbergh after his 1927 transatlantic flight in an aircraft built by a San Diego firm. The field was laid out on filled tidelands along San Diego Bay, so the view shows a waterfront airport still taking shape in the 1930s. The caption card credits photographer H.A. Erickson and dates the picture to about 1935, though those details are unverified. Aerial views like this were common in that period for recording growing cities and new aviation facilities.
