Looking west down Wall Street, this stereograph frames the old U.S. Sub-Treasury building near the foot of the street, with the spire of Trinity Church rising at the far end. The Sub-Treasury stood on the site where George Washington took the presidential oath in 1789, and it served for decades as a federal financial center in the heart of the banking district. Underwood & Underwood issued cards like this for home viewers, so the two slightly offset images were meant to be seen together through a stereoscope. The c1910 date comes from the caption card and has not been independently verified.
