A half-length portrait of Jacob Collamer, the Vermont lawyer and politician, shows him turned three-quarters to the left. Brady's New York studio made the daguerreotype, and it is known through an engraving by A.H. Ritchie that was published in the American Review. Collamer served in the U.S. House and Senate and was Postmaster General under Presidents Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore. The plate is gold toned, a finish that warmed the silver image and softened its tonal range.
