Walt Disney's 1940 feature Pinocchio gets a bold, oversized treatment in this color halftone poster, which runs about 101 by 69 centimeters and was printed as a reproduction rather than an original release piece. The notes date the printing to the 1980s, a reminder that the film's characters had been circulating in merchandise and retrospective displays for decades after its debut. Disney's second animated feature, Pinocchio drew on Carlo Collodi's 1883 novel and was among the first films to use the multiplane camera to build depth in its backgrounds. The halftone dot pattern, visible up close, shows how mass-produced color images of the era were made.
