Its German caption urges viewers to subscribe to the Eighth War Loan at their local savings bank, and the design pairs that appeal with a biplane and a railway line, the two modern systems the poster asks Austrians to back. Printed in Vienna by the Gesellschaft für Graphische Industrie, it dates from the last year of the First World War, when the Habsburg government relied heavily on war bonds to finance its military effort. Posters like this one carried the state's appeal into shops, stations and savings banks, where ordinary citizens were asked to lend money to the war effort. The artist, T. Sieber, is recorded only by surname in the catalog entry.
