A color offset poster from about 1944, printed by the Tooker Lithograph Company of New York, puts star Dana Andrews front and center for *The Purple Heart*. The 20th Century Fox war drama, directed by Lewis Milestone, follows American airmen captured by Japan after the April 1942 Doolittle raid on Tokyo and put on a show trial. The film's title refers to the decoration first created by George Washington in 1782 and revived by the Army in 1932 for wounded or meritorious soldiers. Its imagery reflects the wartime effort to rally public support for the fight in the Pacific.
