Pikes Peak rises over the far end of this unpaved, tree-lined street, its summit still white with snow while the road below stays dusty and open. The view is typical of Colorado Springs and the towns along the Front Range in the late 1800s and early 1900s, when wide dirt streets shaded by cottonwoods and elms ran straight toward the mountains.
