A bare, snow-dusted summit rises over the scene, with a single small building near the top as the only sign of human presence. High Colorado peaks like this one often held modest structures for shelter, observation or weather work, since there were few places to take cover from wind and winter storms. Photographers working in the American West were drawn to this kind of rugged, open terrain. The contrast between the small building and the vast, empty slopes is worth noticing, because it shows how slight human works looked beside the mountains.
