The engraver has rendered this ornate horseshoeing tool in fine, controlled lines, and its title places it on a page facing page 60 of a printed volume. That placement suggests it was bound into a book rather than issued alone, a common arrangement for seventeenth-century treatises on horses and their care. Dated 1678, the plate reflects a time when illustrators took pains to show farriers' working implements so that readers could recognize and understand them. Images like this one remain useful evidence of how such tools were designed before industrial manufacturing changed them.
