This glass negative pairs the Italian-born soprano Amelita Galli-Curci with Homer Samuel, the pianist who served as her accompanist and later became her husband. Galli-Curci rose to fame with the Chicago Opera in the 1910s and through a long run of phonograph recordings, making her one of the best-known singers of her day. The Bain News Service supplied newspapers with photographs of performers and public figures, and portraits like this one were made for quick publication. The names come from unverified caption information, so the pairing is worth checking against other sources.
