Labeled a Zeppelin passenger ship on its caption card, this glass negative shows one of the rigid airships that Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin's company flew commercially in Germany before the First World War. The Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-AG began carrying paying passengers on scheduled flights in 1910, making these hydrogen-filled craft among the first regular passenger air services. The Bain News Service, a New York picture agency, distributed the image to newspapers, and its title is recorded as unverified, so the exact vessel and date remain open to question.
