Chicago's Illinois WPA Art Project produced this color silkscreen poster on interior decoration, and a September 1940 date stamp on the back suggests it was in circulation that fall. The Federal Art Project's poster unit, part of the Works Progress Administration, used inexpensive silkscreen printing to advertise public classes, exhibitions, and community services, and adult education was a major WPA concern. Posters like this one were meant to be printed in quantity and to catch the eye in shop windows and public buildings. The record does not name the designer, so the initials "D.S." in the title are the only clue to authorship.
