Madam Hiroshi Kawamura appears here with her children in a portrait dated April 14, 1924, preserved on a glass negative. The National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm active from about 1907 into the late 1920s, made many portraits and street views of the city's residents and visitors. The title comes from the company's own notes on the negative and has not been independently verified. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947, and its age shows in streaks and blemishes from deterioration of the original coating.
