A glass negative dated March 17, 1924, shows Mrs. Wm. Phillip posed with her children, though the name comes from unverified data on the negative sleeve. The plate belongs to the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C. firm that operated from about 1907 into the early 1930s and recorded street scenes, events, and formal portraits. Glass plates like this one were the standard medium of the period, and their coatings often deteriorate, which explains the streaks and blemishes across the surface. Herbert A. French gave the negative to the Library of Congress in 1947.
