The only identifying detail for this glass negative is the surname Illingsworth, a title the Library of Congress describes as unverified and taken from data the Bain News Service recorded on the plate or its caption cards. Bain's agency, based in New York from 1899, supplied news photographs to newspapers, so its negatives from the early twentieth century typically record people, streets and events that made the daily press. Plates this small, 5 by 7 inches or less, were the everyday working format of that trade, and many survive with little more than a name to guide the viewer.
