Its title promises that all roads will lead to Buffalo in September, a nod to the Pan-American Exposition that the city hosted in 1901 and that drew visitors from across the Americas. The fair took a grave turn on September 6, when President William McKinley was shot at its Temple of Music; he died eight days later, and Vice President Theodore Roosevelt took the oath of office in Buffalo, becoming the youngest person to hold the presidency. Maps like this one were a common way for world's fairs of the era to pitch railroads and roads as the routes to the exposition grounds.
