Set against a bat-filled night sky, this Los Angeles poster announces a two-week run of *Dracula* in 1938. The play was adapted by Hamilton Deane from Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, then reworked for Broadway by John L. Balderston, whose 1927 version made Bela Lugosi famous. The Federal theater Project, a Works Progress Administration program that put theater workers back on the payroll during the Depression, sponsored the production. Its silkscreen printing was typical of the program's poster unit, which produced advertising for performances across the country.
